Now in development

In conversation with the architect

The project was realized together with architect Marc Koehler. In this video he explains which choices were made in the design process and what makes MARK Amsterdam unique.

Architect Marc Koehler about MARK Amsterdam

Uniquely located within the ring

MARK is located in Amsterdam North, at the Klaprozenweg 27. The character of Amsterdam Noord is slightly different from the rest of the city. It is unpolished, spatial and enterprising. Creatives and smart people from all parts of the world feel at home amid the exciting combination of unconventional living, industrial activity, no-nonsense restaurants and trendy hang-outs.

North has their sights on young and old

North is more popular than ever. The redevelopment of the Shell site, the NDSM wharf and the EYE film museum have been drivers of rapid area development. Now the wider public is also attracted to this part of the city. Hotspots such as the Tolhuistuin, Pllek, Ceuvel and the A’DAM tower have put the northside on the map.

Connection with the environment

The design by Marc Koehler Architects is inspired by the industrial New York Midtown buildings. The volumes are organized around an atrium. Gradually a higher volume is created. Hospitality is located on the corner of Vlierweg/Hulstweg. The first three floors consist of workspaces. Above this, two towers provide space for the apartments.

Atrium as an industrial lobby

With various public and semi-public spaces, MARK offers an ‘all-day’ concept for urban living and coworking. The atrium adapts to the weather, the public and the activities. You can quietly drink a cup of coffee there, but you can also use the space for exhibitions, workshops, cultural meetings or inspiring TED talks. MARK will also have a café facility and a communal roof terrace.

Lots of light and large outdoor spaces

MARK offers 72 apartments spread over two towers. The apartments consist of 2 to 4-room houses of an average of 60 m2. All homes are of high quality – completely in line with the appearance of the building.

Sustainable community

Sustainable quality of life and accessibility are important principles of MARK. There will be an indoor bicycle shed, charging points for electric cars and bicycles, as well as a mobility hub. By making the use of transport alternatives easier, more accessible and more flexible, MARK contributes to a car-free Buiksloterham, reduced CO2 emissions and more efficient use of space.
